Most of us don't realize how sacred words are. In our haste we tend to use them carelessly and by doing so often make chaos of our writing. Words are more important than writers, just as music is more important than the musician. I've often heard it said that a picture is worth a thousand words╔some are, just as there are some words that pictures can never adequately describe.
When the reader doesn't understand our writing, if he misinterprets, it is not due to his inability to read, it is because of our inability to write coherently. There are very few emotions in the human comedy that can't be put into words and the more we know about words the better we, as writers, can write about them.
The great writers of the past used a limited vocabulary but they used it well. They were well aware that words have subtle shades of significance that can suggest alternate meanings. Learn them well, they are the palette you paint your story with. When I read back over the things I've read, I wish I'd written them differently╤with more grace and reverence to the fascinating language we are all privileged to share. I think if you do the same from time to time you will find you've made mistakes too.
Criticism from your peers can spur your creativity but it cannot take the place of your own.
